Equations: Identification and Classification

  1. You should be able to write the definition of equation, conditional equation, identity, and contradiction.
  2. You should be able to use the definition of equation to determine whether an object is or is not an equation.
  3. You should be able to use the definition of identity to determine whether certain equations are or are not identities.
  4. You should be able to use the definition of contradiction to determine whether certain equations are or are not contradictions.
  5. You should be able to use the definition of conditional equation to determine whether certain equations are or are not conditional equations.
  6. You should be able to construct examples of equations.
  7. You should be able to construct examples of mathematical objects which are not equations.
  8. You should be able to construct examples of equations which are identities.
  9. You should be able to construct examples of equations which are not identities.
  10. You should be able to construct examples of equations which are contradictions.
  11. You should be able to construct examples of equations which are not contradictions.
  12. You should be able to construct examples of conditional equations.
