Equations: Solutions and Solving

  1. You should be able to write the definition of solution, solution set, solving, graph, equivalent equations, and simplest equation.
  2. You should be able to write the Two Properties of Equations.
  3. You should be able to identify the hypothesis in each of the Two Properties of Equations.
  4. You should be able to identify the conclusion in each of the Two Properties of Equations.
  5. You should be able to use the definition of solution to determine whether an object is or is not a solution of an equation.
  6. You should be able to use the definition of graph to determine whether an object is or is not part of the graph of an equation.
  7. You should be able to use the Two Properties of Equations to generate equations which are equivalent to a given equation.
  8. You should recognize that two equations are equivalent if one has been derived from the other by one of the Two Properties of Equations.
  9. You should be able to use the definition of equivalent equations to determine whether two equations are or are not equivalent equations when the solutions sets of the equations are known.
  10. You should be able to sketch the graph of an equation when its solution set is known.
  11. You should be able to construct examples of equations and solutions.
  12. You should be able to construct examples of mathematical objects which are not solutions of a given equation.
  13. You should be able to construct examples of equations which do not have a given number as a solution.
  14. You should be able to construct points which are not part of the graph of a given equation.
  15. You should score at least 85% on each of the practice quizzes for this unit.
